The day was a lovely sunny but windy day which made the targets a tad difficult especially the targets from the high towers. Only 15 entries for this event which was a shame as so much work getting the two layouts ready. I can see Skeet fading out completely in Hampshire as we seem to get very low entries for this discipline.

Mark Bryant and Alex Smith tied with 85 each at todays ABT Hampshire Championship held at Fareham CTC which resulted in a shoot off Mark only dropping 1 to Alex’s 6 missed. Mark Bryant was crowned Hampshire Champion. Roger Deacon just missed the shoot off with an 84, Ron king won the vets with 81. No juniors or colts or ladies this year. Many thanks to Alex Smith Guns of Winchester who very generously sponsored the High gun of the day with 250 hull cartridges. 100 cartridges also went to each class winner who where “A” class Roger Deacon, equal in “B” class, Glenn Smale and Keith Blighton , “C” class was Dean Rickford and “D” class was Chris Smith . A very difficult day in strong wind’s and varying light conditions but excellent targets and an extremely enjoyable day.

Fareham CTC hosted this Championship too on the 29th May, 10 pair Teal, now this was testing but it is a Hants Championship. Many tried and many failed returning low scores from the twenty targets to be had. Kevin Luff returned a credible fourteen which looked good for the title. Not so, veteran Tim Chandler entered and equaled the fourteen forcing a shoot off. Kevin elected to go first, oop’s the wheels fell off. Kevin just couldn’t find them the second time, in stepped Tim and surpassed Kevin’s score early into the set of ten pairs. Tim Chandler takes the 2022 Hampshire Teal Champion Title and cup.

Fareham CTC hosted the hants Championship All round, ten quads booked in for the four discipline competition. The day bright and sunny so no excuses if your score was low you can’t blame the weather today. Twenty five ABT and twenty five Sporting targets to be shot in the morning and then twenty five Single barrel and Skeet in the afternoon. The sporting proved a bit tough for many, three stands of testing targets. Sean Gamblin and Ron King moved ahead in the morning and continued in the afternoon. The scores were double checked and Sean had pipped Ron by one target. Ron picked up the VET’s title, Barney Eastman the Colts title with an 78.

The cup was won this year by club member Atul Vijay with a 91/100 over the 14 stands. There was a tie as Michael Beavis also scored 91 but Atul beat him on count back, Michael missed two clays on the first stand and Atul only missed one.

The weather was dull and cloudy but warm which made it perfect shooting weather with no sun. Especially for the stands with tower traps.

The stands were fair with a few tricky ones down in the bottom of the woods and plenty of clever angles between trees to play with your perception.

A well attended fun shoot for all levels and congratulations again to Atul on a worth win.
